Terms of use

Last updated on 26 October 2026

Draft: some details are still to be added.

Thanks for using Etaply. These are the agreements that apply when you use the website. We have kept them as short and clear as possible. The Dutch version of these terms is the binding one; this English version is a translation.

1. Who we are

Etaply (https://etaply.com) is offered by [naam of bedrijfsnaam], [adres], Chamber of Commerce no. [KvK-nummer]. These terms apply to everyone who uses the website, with or without an account.

2. What Etaply does

Etaply divides a hiking or cycling route into day stages and shows places to stay, supermarkets and restaurants for each day, with links to search further or book. Etaply is free. We do not sell accommodation or trips ourselves.

3. A tool, not a guarantee

The routes and places mostly come from OpenStreetMap, a map maintained by volunteers. This data is usually good, but not always complete or up to date. A campsite may be closed, a path diverted, a shop gone.

  • So check opening hours, availability and prices yourself before you set off.
  • Always follow the signs and waymarks of the route, and watch out for closures.
  • Take the weather, your fitness and your experience into account. You are responsible for your own safety.
  • Etaply is not a navigation system and does not replace a good map.

4. Booking and other websites

Etaply links to other websites, such as Booking.com, a campsite's website, Google Maps or a railway company. If you book something there, your agreement is with that party and their terms apply. We are not a party to it and are not responsible for their services.

Some links may be partner links. If you book through such a link, that party pays us a small fee. Your price stays the same. This is how we keep Etaply free.

5. Your account

  • An account is personal. Use your real email address and keep your password secret.
  • You are responsible for what happens with your account.
  • You can always delete your account and your trips yourself in My trips.
  • In case of abuse we may block or delete an account.

6. Fair use

You may not:

  • overload the website, for example with automated programs that request routes in bulk;
  • copy the website or the data behind it to build your own service;
  • get around the security or use someone else's account;
  • use Etaply for anything that breaks the law.

7. Rights to content

  • The design, texts, logo and software of Etaply belong to us.
  • Map and place data are © OpenStreetMap contributors and available under the Open Database License.
  • Routes you upload yourself remain yours. You only give us permission to use them to make your plan and, if you wish, to save it.

8. Liability

We do our best to make Etaply work well and reliably, but we cannot promise that everything is always correct or available. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage caused by incorrect or outdated information, by the website being unavailable, or by services of other parties you go to through Etaply. This does not apply if the damage is the result of intent or deliberate recklessness on our part.

9. Changes

We may change, extend or stop (part of) Etaply. These terms may also change. The date at the top shows when they were last updated. We announce important changes on the website. If you keep using Etaply after that, the new terms apply.

10. Applicable law

These terms are governed by Dutch law. If we cannot resolve a dispute together, you can bring it before the competent court in the Netherlands. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection that the law of your country gives you as a consumer.
